Learning and emulating the most beautiful names of Allah is the most reliable way to know God, to live ethically, and to attain Paradise.

To understand each name of Allah correctly and to try to live a life in accordance with these attributes is the most reliable compass that leads people to Paradise.

The text is a Friday sermon by the DITIB Sermon Commission, which describes knowledge of Allah as the most valuable knowledge a person can possess. The central idea is that the Esma el-Husna, the most beautiful names of Allah, are a path to knowing God and to living in accordance with his attributes. The text distinguishes two ways: belief in attributes that belong to Allah alone, and the emulation of these attributes in one's own life. Several names of Allah are linked to concrete instructions for action, such as showing mercy, living a halal life, maintaining honesty, forgiving, and rendering an account for entrusted gifts. The sermon draws on Quranic verses and a hadith of the Prophet. The connection to the present is practical and everyday: the believers are called upon to align their deeds, their livelihood, and their dealings with one another according to these names. The sermon concludes with a supplication that Allah make the believers into such servants as know and love Him rightly.

The Most Beautiful Names Are Allah's (31.01.2025) Dear brothers and sisters! Esteemed believers! The most valuable knowledge a person can acquire is the knowledge of Allah, the Almighty. Whoever knows his Lord, that is, his Rabb, trusts Him, loves Him, and surrenders to Him unconditionally. Whoever knows his Lord finds the meaning of life. Whoever trusts his Lord is secure from what he fears and attains what he hopes for. Whoever loves his Lord acts with utmost caution so as not to lose His love. One of the ways to come to know our Lord is to learn the Esma el-Husna, that is, the most beautiful names of Allah. Esma el-Husna means "the most beautiful names," which teach us how Allah, the Almighty, is. In the verse I recited at the beginning of my sermon, Allah, the Exalted, emphasizes that there is no deity except Him and that the most perfect attributes belong to Him.[1] Esteemed believers! To correctly understand each name of Allah and to strive to live a life in accordance with these attributes is the most reliable compass that leads people to Paradise. Our Prophet (s) pointed out how important it is to act in accordance with the names of Allah. He said: "Allah has 99 names. Whoever learns these names and mentions them by behaving in a manner befitting them will enter Paradise."[2] Acting in accordance with the beautiful names of Allah is realized in two ways. The first is to believe in the attributes that are unique to Allah Himself and cannot exist in other beings, and to submit to them. The other way of acting in accordance with the beautiful names of Allah is to make these beauties tangible in our lives and to strive to be a reflection of these attributes of Allah on earth. The one who wants to be a reflection of Allah's names "er-Rahman and er-Rahim"[3] on earth should meet all living beings, especially human beings, with mercy. He should live with the awareness that those who do not show mercy will not be shown mercy.[4] The servant of Allah who wants to be the manifestation of Allah's name "er-Razzaq"[5] should earn his livelihood through legitimate (halal) means and contribute to the livelihood of the workers he employs by giving them their due rights. The servant who wants to transfer Allah's name "el-Mumin"[6] to his life should give trust with his words and deeds; he should never abandon honesty. The one who wants to receive a share of Allah's name "el-Ghaffar"[7] should have the virtue of forgiving those who apologize to him. The servant of Allah who understands the meaning of Allah's name "el-Malik"[8] should live with the awareness that the bounties in his possession are not his property but have been entrusted to him by Allah and that he must give an account for them.[9] The servant of Allah who wants to adopt Allah's name "el-Hamid"[10] as a principle should prove worthy of praise by carrying out his work lawfully and in an orderly manner. The one who wants to be the reflection of Allah's name "el-Wadud"[11] should meet all people with love. May Allah, the Exalted, make us all His servants who act in accordance with His beautiful names. May Allah make us among those who know Him correctly and continually deepen their love for Him.
