Barakah is a spiritual abundance that emanates from Allah and becomes experientially accessible through God-pleasing conduct in work, family, diet, and worship in everyday life.

Barakah is not a material state that can be grasped with numbers, a quantity, or a price. Rather, it denotes a valuable, spiritual abundance.

The text explains the Islamic concept of "barakah" as a spiritual abundance that emanates from Allah and becomes experientially accessible through God-pleasing conduct in everyday life. It links the concept to concrete areas of life: nature, water, the Kaaba, the Quran, work, family, diet, child-rearing, and leisure. The sermon calls for working honestly, living halal, eating together, raising children in a beneficial way, and using the months before Ramadan for prayer and obligatory worship. A closing prayer asks for blessing upon earnings, home, children, and life. Additionally, the sermon reminds the congregation of the federal election on 23 February 2025 and encourages voter participation. The text draws on Quranic citations and hadiths and is addressed to the Muslim community in Germany.

Barakah: The Spiritual Abundance (14.02.2025) Brethren! Dear Believers! "Barakah" is a term from the Noble Quran that we frequently use in everyday life. "Barakah" means "increase," "abundance," and "permanence." Specifically, it means "to derive as much benefit as possible from good things." "Barakah" is not a material state that can be measured by numbers, a quantity, or a price. Rather, it denotes a valuable, spiritual abundance. The source of Barakah is Allah, the Exalted.[1] If we as Muslims want our lives to be full of Barakah, we must perform deeds that correspond to the pleasure of our Lord. The Noble Quran states that the earth, which provides sustenance to all living beings, is blessed, that is, full of Barakah.[2] In order to be able to make use of this abundance, we must preserve nature and protect its balance. According to the Quran, the water that comes down from the sky is a blessing;[3] it should not be wasted but used sparingly. The Kaaba, the House of Allah, is blessed;[4] every time we turn our faces toward the Qiblah, we should remember our shared ideals and further strengthen our unity. Our guide for life, the Noble Quran, is a blessed book,[5] revealed in a blessed night,[6] which is more valuable than a thousand months.[7] It is important to recognize the value and significance of the Quran and to internalize the morality of the Quran.[8] Brethren! It is up to us whether our lives become blessed or not. If we want our earnings to be full of Barakah, we must carry out our work carefully and always proceed honestly. We should be careful to earn from permissible sources and avoid forbidden paths. If we want our homes to be filled with Barakah, we must be a family full of love, compassion, and mercy. If we want a blessed offspring, we should raise our children into individuals who are useful to humanity. If we want our tables to be full of Barakah, we should eat together as a family, we should not begin eating without the Basmala;[9] we should be careful to consume halal and clean food[10] and share our bread with others.[11] If we want our days and months to be filled with Barakah, we should use our leisure time meaningfully. The Prophet often recited the prayer: "O Allah! Make the months of Rajab and Sha'ban blessed for us and let us reach Ramadan!"[12] If we want to experience the blessing of these months, we should not neglect our obligatory acts of worship and should devote more to voluntary acts. In this way, we can prepare our inner world for the blessed Ramadan. O Allah! Let us earn abundantly! Do not deprive us of Your blessing in this land in which we live![13] Heal us with every bite we eat! Make our home a place of peace and happiness! Help us raise our children to be good, excellent children! Bless our days, nights, and our lives! (Âmîn, we’l-hamdu lillâhi Rabbi’l-âlemîn.)
