The month of Muharram calls on believers to consciously turn away from evil, not to accept injustice, and to live in unity and justice.

Today humanity needs a great Hijra. We must turn away from evil and turn toward the good. We must migrate from the sinful to the pious, from injustice to justice.

The sermon is devoted to the Islamic month of Muharram and the day of Ashura. It connects the remembrance of the Hijra with the call to consciously turn away from evil and turn toward the good. The text refers to the injustice at Karbala against the family of the Prophet and derives from it the duty not to accept injustice. The Ashura food is interpreted as a symbol of unity and solidarity. A larger section contains concrete advice for the upcoming summer holidays, including reconciliation, almsgiving, traffic rules, and the maintenance of religious practice. The text is addressed to the local community and connects religious remembrance with practical instructions for daily life. It concludes with supplications for blessing, safety, and brotherhood.

The Month of Muharram (04.07.2025) Today is Friday, the 9th of Muharram. May our Friday be blessed! Tomorrow is the 10th of Muharram, the Day of Ashura. May this day bring us good and blessings! Dear brothers and sisters! Esteemed believers! When we think of the month of Muharram, we think of respect. We think of compassion for humanity and mercy for all living beings. For the month of Muharram is a sacred time in which we should pay even greater attention to the life, property, dignity, and honor of human beings. In this month, it is especially important to be sensitive to the rights of others and to be more compassionate in our dealings with our fellow human beings. When we think of the month of Muharram, we think of the Hijra. Hijra means "to leave, to turn away, and to depart." Yet the Hijra is not limited solely to emigrating from one land to another. Rather, Hijra is a conscious state of distancing oneself. Our exalted Lord wishes us to keep ourselves away from evil with full awareness. He commands us to distance ourselves from people with bad behavior. Our Prophet (s) also explained the true Hijra as "leaving that which Allah has forbidden." Dear brothers and sisters! Today, humanity needs a great Hijra. We must turn away from evil and toward the good. We must emigrate from the sinful to the pious, from injustice to justice. We must pass from evil intentions to good will and from bad deeds to righteous works. We must cast off hatred and find love, cease from war and attain peace. Brothers and sisters! When we think of the month of Muharram, we think of grief. We think of the injustice done to the family of the Prophet Muhammad Mustafa at Karbala. This painful event teaches us not to passively accept injustice and to stand firm for the values in which we believe. When we think of the month of Muharram, we think of the Ashura dish. Ashura should not be understood merely as a dessert. Through the combination of the most diverse ingredients, which together produce something beautiful, it symbolizes unity and cohesion, as well as abundance and blessing. May Allah bless us abundantly with the blessings of this month. May He protect us from doing injustice to others. May He make us true Muhajireen (emigrants) who can turn from evil to good. May He not let us stray from unity and brotherhood. Esteemed believers! Due to the upcoming summer holidays, I would like to offer some advice to our brothers and sisters who are about to embark on a holiday trip: Dear brothers and sisters! Be sure to make peace with your loved ones before you depart! Give a Sadaqa before and after your journey for a safe trip, and ask those in need for their blessed supplications! Do not forget: Even a small donation can avert great harm! Every journey brings a certain tension with it. Be organized, patient, and cautious! Obey the traffic rules! Do not put yourself or others in danger by speeding! Remember: Ibadah (religious practice) knows no vacation – do not neglect your duties even while traveling and on holiday! Avoid waste and ostentation! Harm neither the environment nor nature. Do not neglect visiting your relatives either. Strive to spend valuable time with your families and loved ones. May you travel safely and return safely, insha'Allah. May your departure and your return be peaceful. May all your affairs proceed peacefully. Der Monat Muharram (04.07.2025) Heute ist Freitag, der 9. Muharram.
