Muslims are obligated to actively counter the distortion of their faith by politics and extremism in the public sphere by conveying the true image of Islam through personal testimony and education.

The text calls on Muslims to become active during election campaigns and to correct the image of Islam through personal outreach and their own example. It argues that the invitation to Allah (Da'wa) is a central religious duty that goes beyond mere political parties. As concrete examples, the defense of the hijab through female role models and the distancing from extremism are mentioned. The text warns against the distortion of Islam by political parties and by extremism, which is exploited by enemies. It is emphasized that Muslims should not hide their faith, but must live and advocate for it with confidence. In the face of oppression, emigration is presented as a legitimate option for the preservation of faith. The address is directed at the entire Muslim community in Germany, particularly at women and men in everyday life.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the Master of the righteous, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, the leader of the white-faced, the red-footed. May the blessings and peace of our Lord be upon him, upon his family, and upon all his companions. O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims. My beloved in Allah, in every election, parties strive to gain the approval of voters and win their votes. They conduct election campaigns, communicate with people, and present their programs and ideas to them. The question that recurs with every election is: Where is the Muslim in all of this? The answer is that Muslims must conduct their own campaigns and reach out to people, and not leave the stage to the parties alone. Perhaps one of us may wonder: How do we do that? And is this even part of Islam? The answer is yes; indeed, it is among the greatest obligations in Islam. It is the call to Allah, Glory and Exalted is He. It is the duty of the Prophets and Messengers, and the path of their followers after them. Allah, the Most High, said: “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of those who are guided.” Election campaigns are divided into mass campaigns and individual campaigns. Some campaigns address a large audience of people and seek to deliver their message to the greatest possible number of them. However, among the most important means of election campaigns are individual conversations, which are based on direct communication with the individual, listening to their feelings and ideas, understanding them, and understanding their questions and concerns. Therefore, it is no surprise that the call of the Prophets and Messengers, peace be upon them, was based on individual invitation. The Prophet or Messenger, peace be upon them, would speak to a single person, invite him, convince him, refute doubts, and answer questions. It is the duty of Muslims today to defend the radiant image of Islam and to clarify to people the virtues of this religion. We live in an era in which some parties politically profit from slandering the religion, distorting the image of Islam, and stirring fears about it. If parties reach people one by one to convince them of their ideas and programs, then Muslims are even more entitled to reach people, speak to them about their religion, remove the doubts and distorted images that have stuck in their minds, and introduce them to Islam as it is. You, O Muslim, you, O Muslim woman, the neighbor, the colleague at work, you, the customer, you, the student, you, the teacher—you are closer to people than politicians, more present in their daily lives, and more credible in their eyes, because they know you directly, see your morals and your dealings, and speak with you. There are no barriers or intermediaries. Thus, you have the opportunity that the politician does not have, who meets people only during election seasons. The opportunity to address them directly, listen to them, answer their questions, and correct the wrong conceptions they hold about Islam. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “This knowledge will be carried by the righteous of every succeeding generation, who will remove from it the distortion of the ignorant, the fabrication of the wrongdoers, and the misinterpretation of the extremists.” One example of this is the hijab. The Muslim woman bears a great responsibility in defending the hijab. And this is not merely by speaking about it, but before that, by the Muslim woman herself being a role model through her hijab: by excelling in her studies, excelling in her morals, distinguishing herself in her discourse, and having a positive impact in her environment. She is the veiled neighbor whom people respect. Thus, her defense of the hijab is not by words alone, but she herself becomes a practical proof against the distorted image that some try to draw of the Muslim woman. In addition, we need an awareness campaign about the hijab, whether through social media platforms or through direct meetings with people. Here too, the greater role falls on women. The veiled woman is better able to speak about her experience, and her words about the hijab are more convincing and impactful than a man’s words about it, because she is the one who lives with it and faces what is related to it in her daily life. This is an example and a field in which we should strive. The second field to which the efforts of Muslims should be directed is the phenomenon of extremism and radicalism. Extremism is an old disease known to the nations before us, and the Master of Creation, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against it, saying: “Beware of extremism in religion, for indeed it destroyed those who came before you through extremism in religion.” Just as it is the duty of Muslims to defend Islam against those who distort it from outside, it is their duty to protect its image from the extremism and deviation attributed to it from within. Extremism exists, and it is not right to deny its existence. It is the carrion upon which racists and enemies of Islam feed to distort the image of Muslims and their religion, and to kill the innocent in the name of Islam. Only a misguided misleader does this, one who contradicts the guidance of Islam and encroaches upon the sanctities of people. Entities and states may exploit the existence of extremists, encouraging them and facilitating their path to carry out their terrorist acts to achieve political interests. Thus, doctrinal deviation and political interests converge in feeding these crimes and their spread. From here, Muslims must clarify the guidance of the Chosen One, peace and blessings be upon him, in dealing with others and living with those who differ from them, and they must make people acquainted with his biography. As it was with him, peace and blessings be upon him, the guidance of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not involve killing the innocent, nor did he compel anyone to enter Islam, nor did he initially call non-Muslims to apply the rulings of the Sharia. Rather, the core of his call was to invite them to believe in Allah and His Messenger. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sent Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him, to Yemen, he said: "You will come to a people of the Book, so let the first thing you call them to be the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. If they obey you in that, then they have become Muslims, so inform them that Allah has obligated upon them five prayers in the day and night. If they obey you in that, then inform them that Allah has obligated upon them a zakat to be taken from their rich and returned to their poor." Thus, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, began with the call to faith and did not order Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him, to begin with the People of the Book by demanding the rulings of Islam from them. From this, the error of those who base their address to non-Muslims initially on demanding the application of legal rulings upon them, instead of inviting them to know Islam and believe in it, becomes apparent. This contradicts the Prophetic guidance, and it also provides the enemies of Muslims with material to exploit in stirring fear of Islam and Muslims. My dear ones, the duty of Muslims today is the diligent work in calling to Allah, glorified and exalted: calling Muslims to the pure creed, free from extremism and deviation, and calling non-Muslims to Allah, the Most High, and introducing them to Islam and to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Then, Muslims must stand firm in their Islam and take pride in their religion, and they should fear in Allah the blame of a blamer, and let the media campaigns or political and social pressures not drive them to compromise their religion or hide their identity. As Allah, the Most High, said about the Companions, when people said to them, "People have gathered against you, so fear them," it increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs." So they returned with a favor from Allah and a grace; no harm touched them, and they followed the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is the possessor of immense favor. "It is only Satan who frightens his allies, so do not fear them, and fear Me, if you are believers." And if a Muslim is prevented from adhering to his religion and is hindered from establishing its rituals—for example, if a woman is prevented from her hijab, or a Muslim is prevented from prayer, Friday prayer, and congregational prayers, and he cannot establish his religion—then in that case, migration becomes obligatory upon him if he is able to do so. Allah, the Most High, said: "Those whom the angels take in death while they have wronged themselves, they said, 'What was the matter with you?' They said, 'We were weak on earth.' They said, 'Was not the earth of Allah spacious so that you could migrate therein?' So their refuge is Hell, and evil is the destination, except for the weak among men, women, and children who cannot devise a strategy nor find a way. For those, perhaps Allah will pardon them. And Allah is Pardoning, Forgiving." For this reason, a Muslim should prepare for the fluctuations of circumstances and changes in conditions, and he should not build the future of his family on the assumption that reality will always remain as it is. Whoever is able to build for himself a source of livelihood and a stable life in a Muslim country, where he can live and preserve his religion and the religion of his family, there is no doubt that this is better for him in the long run. And whoever is not able to do that now, let him strive to establish for his children and grandchildren the means of stability, and let him open for them doors and options that enable them in the future to live in a Muslim country. I ask Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, to preserve Islam and Muslims, and to keep us away from trials, both what is apparent and what is hidden. I say this, and I seek forgiveness from Allah for myself and for you, so seek His forgiveness; indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. In the name of Allah, praise be to Allah. Dear brothers, please move forward and sit closer together. Many brothers are still standing. Dear brothers and sisters, in every election, the parties strive to win the approval of voters and retain their votes. They conduct election campaigns, engage with people, and present their programs and ideas to them. And a question that arises anew with every election is: Where does the Muslim stand? In all of this. The answer is that Muslims must themselves become active, approach people, and must not leave the field solely to the parties. And perhaps some may ask, how should we do that, and does this even belong to Islam? And the answer is, of course, that it belongs even more to the greatest of duties, namely the Da'wah to Allah. It was the task of the Prophets and the righteous ones. Allah says: "Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in the best manner." Election campaigns are public and individual. Some campaigns target a large number of people and try thereby to convey their message to as many of them as possible. But among the most important means are also the personal conversations, which are based on direct contact with the individual. One He listens to his feelings and thoughts and tries to understand his questions and what preoccupies him. And therefore, it is not surprising that it was precisely the Prophets and Messengers who conducted this individual dawah, these one-on-one conversations. The entire Prophet, peace be upon him, spoke with individuals, called them to the faith, convinced them, refuted fallacious arguments, and answered questions. The duty of Muslims today is to defend the pure and clear image of Islam and to explain to people the merits and the true reality of this religion. For we live in a time in which some parties are making political capital out of attacking the religion, distorting the image of Islam, and stoking fears about it. If parties approach people individually to convince them of their ideas and programs, then Muslims have all the more reason to approach people, to speak with them about their religion, to eliminate fallacious arguments and distorted notions from their minds, and to present Islam to them as it actually is. You, O Muslim man, and you, O Muslim woman, you are the neighbor, the colleague, the customer, the student, the teacher, the neighbor. You are closer to people than politicians and more present in their daily lives. In their eyes, you are more credible because they know you directly, see your manners, your behavior, and speak with you without barriers or intermediaries. And from this arises for you an opportunity that a politician does not have, one who only speaks with people when there are elections. You can speak with them directly, listen to them, answer their questions, and correct their false notions about Islam. And therefore, the Prophet said: “This knowledge will be carried in every generation by its scholars. They will repel from it the distortions of the ignorant, the false claims of the followers of falsehood, and the interpretations of the exaggerators.” An example is the hijab. Here, the Muslim woman bears the greatest responsibility, and this is achieved not only by speaking about the hijab, but by living the hijab, by being an example, for instance, by excelling in her education, by standing out in her character, by excelling in her expression, and by her influence on her surroundings. She is the hijab-wearing neighbor, the hijab-wearing customer, and in this way she calls to Islam and to the correct understanding of the hijab. In addition, however, we also need campaigns about the hijab, explaining what the hijab is and that it is an obligation. And here, too, women play the greater role. A woman who wears the hijab can speak better about her own experience, and her words are more convincing than the words of a man. The second field is fanaticism, which actually exists among Muslims. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, warned of this already at the beginning, saying: “Beware of exaggeration, that is, fanaticism, in religion, for those before you were only destroyed by exaggeration, that is, fanaticism, in religion.” And just as it is the duty of Muslims to repel attacks from outside, it is also their duty to repel attacks from within by refuting this fanaticism. And thus, one who kills people is one who has gone astray. And Muslims must explain this again and again, for the da’wah does not cease with a single clarification, but the da’wah consists of repetition, and Allah says: “And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.” Likewise, dear brothers and sisters, we must know that we must hold fast to our religion, that we must be proud that we are Muslims, and that these attacks must not prevent us from continuing to live our religion. But in the right way, for fanaticism also includes those who call upon non-Muslims to implement the Sharia. But the Prophet did not do so; rather, when he was sent to Mecca, he said, “You will come to people from among the People of the Book. The first thing to which you should call them is the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.” If they follow you in that, that is, after they have become Muslims and not before, then inform them that Allah has obligated upon them five prayers. And therefore it is wrong to speak to non-Muslims about the commandments or laws of Islam; rather, we must speak about Allah, about this noble religion, that it is precisely the solution to all problems. Likewise, dear brothers and sisters, we must strengthen ourselves in the religion through knowledge and through the practice of this religion. And lastly, dear brothers and sisters, if things indeed become critical and the Muslim cannot live his religion, if the hijab is forbidden, if the prayers, the mosques no longer exist, and the Muslim cannot live his religion, then there is no other choice but to emigrate to another country, in which one can live one’s religion. You cannot remain in a region in which you cannot live your religion. The dunya must not take precedence over the religion; rather, your religion is the highest good you possess. This dunya is transient, but your religion, your iman, your faith must not perish. And therefore each person should strategically consider having a Plan B. Whoever is not personally able to go to a better country where he can practice his religion should at least lay the foundations so that his children or grandchildren can make a much easier decision to move to another country, by finding there an existence that you have built for them. So now and here, hold firmly to the faith, call to Allah, do not yield, but on the other hand, do not lose sight of the alternative, do not lose sight of Plan B. And may Allah protect the Muslims everywhere, and may Allah preserve us from all temptations. Abdul Hamid Boukhelif is ill again in the hospital, and there is also a mother asking for prayers for her two sons. O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove from them the affliction and heal, the Healer; there is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind. O Allah, lift from them the disease and send down upon them healing, and bless the medicine, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, return them safe and successful, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor. O Allah, keep us away from trials, both those apparent and those hidden. O Allah, O Turner of hearts, firm our hearts upon Your religion. Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us from Yourself mercy; indeed, You are the Bestower. And may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions.
