Our words reflect what is in our hearts
(12.12.2025)
The ability to speak and express oneself meaningfully is a unique gift granted only to humans among all living creatures.¹ This special gift, bestowed upon us by the Exalted Allah, also entails a great responsibility.
Our words reflect what is in our hearts. Words have weight, language has value. For a word, once spoken, does not return; it can heal hearts or break hearts. Some words elevate humans and grant hope, while others hurt, leave wounds, and are deeply imprinted. Therefore, every word carries responsibility, and every spoken word bears its burden.
My brothers and sisters! Dear believers!
Our exalted Lord desires that not only our inner selves be pure and beautiful,² but also our words.³ He calls upon us to be mindful towards Him and to speak the truth.⁴ He instructs us to speak to people in a friendly and gentle manner⁵, with balanced and just words.⁶ Our Lord also admonishes us to avoid words that might give hope particularly to those with sick hearts.⁷ He further reminds us to always speak to our parents with respect, love, and gentle words.⁸
My brothers and sisters!
A person who believes in Allah and the Last Day in a perfect manner never lies⁹ and does not slander anyone.¹⁰ A person who believes in Allah and the Last Day in a perfect manner stays away from backbiting¹¹ and does not engage in gossip.¹² He avoids useless and empty words,¹³ and does not waste his time or tongue on things that do not concern him. A person with this faith always chooses good and beneficial words; and if he has nothing good to say, he prefers to remain silent.¹⁴
My brothers and sisters!
Let us all together pay attention to our words. Let us speak with substance, choosing our words appropriately, thoughtfully, and with respect. Let us use positive and constructive language and formulate our sentences carefully. In our interactions with one another, we should be respectful, polite, friendly, and understanding. Just as we pay attention to every spoken word, we should also treat the messages and communications we write with the same care.
Let us not give anyone derogatory nicknames,¹⁵ not mock others, and not make hurtful or offensive jokes.¹⁶ Let us avoid crude, ugly, and vulgar expressions that are not compatible with Islamic ethics. Let us stay completely away from insulting and obscene words that violate the dignity and honor of humans. Let us not forget that every word we utter is recorded by the appointed angels.¹⁷
O Allah! Beautify our hearts so that our words may also become beautiful. Make us those who speak with kindness, politeness, and decency. Keep us away from lies, slander, backbiting, gossip, and hurtful words! (Amin)

Unsere Worte spiegeln das, was in unserem Herzen ist
(12.12.2025)
(Amin)
