Whoever makes the qualities mentioned in the Quran – faith, prayer, almsgiving, chastity, abstention from what is forbidden, generosity, and remembrance of Allah – their way of life will attain the pleasure of Allah and eternal salvation.

Let us therefore listen together – in the light of the noble Quran – to the fundamental qualities of those believers who will deserve the pleasure of Allah and eternal salvation

The text is a DITIB sermon for the Night of Berat, the fifteenth night of the month of Shaʿban, which is regarded as a harbinger of Ramadan. It explains the term "Berat" as liberation from guilt and burden and refers to a tradition according to which Allah in this night responds to petitions for forgiveness, provision, and relief. The main body lists a series of Quranic qualities that, according to the text, lead to eternal salvation: faith, prayer, almsgiving, chastity, keeping promises, guarding one's gaze, avoiding what is forbidden, generosity, remembrance of Allah, and much more. Each statement is supported by a Quranic verse. The text is addressed to the believers of the congregation and calls on them to make these principles their way of life. There is no explicit reference to contemporary political or social events; the reference is directed toward the liturgical calendar and personal piety.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: Then as for he who repents and believes and does righteousness, it is expected that he will be among the successful. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the night of the middle of Sha'ban comes, stand in prayer during its night and fast during its day (...) The Guide to Eternal Salvation (30.01.2026) On the coming Monday evening, we will observe the blessed Laylat al-Bara'at. The word "Bara'at" means to be freed from the punishment for committed transgressions, to be released from debts and burdens, and to be purified. For a believer, the greatest Bara'at, however, is the attainment of divine forgiveness – and thereby eternal salvation. Dear believers! Our Prophet (s.a.s) has recommended to us to spend the fifteenth night of the month of Sha'ban – the harbinger of Ramadan – in worship and to fast during the day. According to a narration of our Prophet (s), our Allah turns to the worldly heaven with His mercy on that night and calls out until dawn: "Is there no one who asks for forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? Is there no one who asks for provision, so that I may grant him provision? Is there no one who is in distress, so that I may grant him relief? Is there no one who has another need, so that I may give him what he desires?"[1] Honored brothers and sisters in faith! Our exalted Creator has clearly shown us the paths to eternal salvation and tied eternal happiness to our sincerity on this path. Let us therefore listen together – in the light of the noble Quran – to the fundamental qualities of those believers who will deserve the pleasure of Allah and eternal salvation: According to the Quran, those who will be saved are those who believe in Allah and put their trust in Him; who perform their ritual prayer in humility and keep themselves away from useless words and actions. Saved are those who give their alms (Zakat) from the heart, preserve their chastity, and keep their promises.[2] The believers who align their life's path with the Quran, strengthen their faith through worship, and shape their lives with awareness of the Hereafter will attain true salvation.[3] Those who purify their souls from all evil will be saved.[4] Saved are those who guard their gazes from the forbidden, observe the commands of modesty, and after committing a sin, desist from wrongdoing and sincerely repent.[5] Those who do not oppose the commands and prohibitions of Allah will be saved.[6] Those who keep themselves away from alcohol, gambling, idolatry, and divination – all of which are abhorrent works of the devil – will be saved.[7] Those who do not engage in usurious transactions will be saved.[8] Saved are those whose good deeds outweigh their bad ones.[9] And also those who recognize their opportunities as gifts from Allah and do not forget the true Giver of gifts will be saved.[10] Those who believe in the last Prophet sent by Allah, Muhammad (s.a.s), and put their trust in him, protect and support him, stand by him, and follow the Quran revealed with him, will be saved.[11] Saved are those who serve Allah and perform deeds that are beneficial for this world and the Hereafter.[12] The generous will be saved,[13] as well as those who give their due to the relative, the needy, and the traveler.[14] Those who call to good, enjoin what is right, and forbid what is blameworthy,[15] as well as those who perform righteous deeds, will be saved.[16] Those who strive and labor on the path of Allah will be saved.[17] Those who constantly remember Allah[18] and those who are content with Allah will be saved.[19] May Allah count us among those of His servants who make these principles of the Quran their path in life and, through their sincere effort, earn eternal salvation.
