Divine blessing and peace in the family depend directly on the practice of the fear of God, ritual devotion, and gentle, respectful communication among the household members.
The text is an Islamic sermon that deals with the spiritual quality of domestic life. The preacher argues that divine blessing (Baraka) enters a home when it is characterized by the fear of God, recitation of the Quran, and mutual respect. A contrast is drawn between houses that are visited by angels and those that are contested by demons, often due to quarreling or a lack of devotion. Specifically, actions such as greeting upon entering, mentioning God when eating, and praying at home are named as means to enliven the home. The sermon admonishes gentleness in the family and warns against bad words that sow discord. It calls on the believers to make their homes, through ritual and interpersonal practices, places of peace and light.

Blessings in the Homes
The First Sermon
All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him with abundant, good, and blessed praise. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner. And I bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be the most excellent prayers and the purest salutations, guided us to every good, directed us to every wholesome thing, warned us against every evil, and saved us from every corrupt thing. May the prayers and peace of our Lord be upon him, upon his family, and upon all his companions, and upon those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
To proceed, O believers: The homes we inhabit, we wish that goodness may envelop them, that they may be filled with tranquility and affection, that we may find rest and reassurance in them, and that we may be happy and content within them. And whenever our homes are free from problems and disputes, they are secure.
O Muslims, the home is the shelter for every human being. If one’s shelter is sound, free from every persistent source of disturbance and every constant source of spoilage, one finds the sweetness of life. This does not mean that calamities do not occur, or that trials do not befall homes; but there is a difference between a calamity that the members of the household cooperate to mitigate and repel, and a home in which its inhabitants reside while their hearts are divided. Yes, O servants of Allah, the members of one family may live in one house and under one roof, but their hearts are scattered, as if the bond of kinship does not unite them. The blood is one blood, and the lineage is one lineage, yet hatred, enmity, resentment, envy, and malice permeate their hearts. Let us, O believers, invite blessings into our homes and ward off their deprivation. Let us make our homes a dwelling in which our souls reside. And the first cause of this, O servants of Allah, is the piety of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. For through piety we invite goodness and blessings. Did not Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, say:
“And if only the people of the towns had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth” [Al-A’raf: 96]?
Thus, the homes of the believers differ from the homes of others by their faith and their piety towards Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. The homes of the believers are enveloped by the angels, while the homes of others are contested by the devils. Al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy upon him, narrated in his Sahih from Abu Talha al-Ansari, Zayd ibn Sahl, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The angels do not enter a home in which there is a dog or an image of statues.”
O believers: Ask yourselves about every action and behavior in your homes: Is it one that brings the angels, so that blessings and goodness prevail therein? Or is it one that brings the devils, so that evil, badness, and misery prevail therein?
The home in which the Quran is recited is a home enveloped by blessings. And Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said: “A Book We have revealed to you, blessed” [Sad: 29]. Thus, the Quran is blessed for its reciter, its listener, and the place in which it is recited. Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Do not make your homes like graves. Indeed, the devil flees from the home in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited.” So, if the home is free from the devil, rejoice in every good. And the homes that are built up with the remembrance of Allah, the Most High, are protected, preserved, and fortified homes. And Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said: “So when you enter homes, send greetings to yourselves as a greeting from Allah, blessed and good. Thus does Allah make clear to you the verses that perhaps you will understand” [An-Nur: 61]. Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab al-Mufrad, Abu Dawud in his Sunan, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih narrated from Abu Amamah al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Three people, each of whom is guaranteed by Allah: if he lives, he will be provided for and sufficed; and if he dies, Allah will admit him to Paradise: the one who enters his home and sends greetings, he is guaranteed by Allah; the one who goes out to the mosque, he is guaranteed by Allah; and the one who goes out in the cause of Allah, he is guaranteed by Allah.” Al-Bayhaqi narrated in Shu’ab al-Iman that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Anas ibn Malik: “O Anas, when you enter your home, send greetings to your household, so that the goodness of your home may increase.” And Imam Muslim, may Allah have mercy upon him, narrated in his Sahih from Jabir ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When a man enters his home and mentions Allah upon his entry and upon his food, the devil says: ‘You have no lodging and no supper.’ And if he enters and does not mention Allah upon his entry, the devil says: ‘You have secured lodging.’ And if he does not mention Allah upon his food, he says: ‘You have secured lodging and supper.’” Thus, the mention of Allah’s name upon entering the home and upon eating food, and the sending of greetings to the household, are two causes for the attainment of blessings in the homes.
O believers: Al-Hakim narrated in his Mustadrak from Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with both, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Do not prevent your women from the mosques, though their homes are better for them.” Thus, the prayer of a woman in her home is better for them, and the prayer of a man in his home is superior to his prayer in the mosque, except for the obligatory prayers. Al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated from Zayd ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Pray, O people, in your homes; for the best prayer of a man is in his home, except for the obligatory prayer.” So enliven your homes, O believers, with blessing through your prayers in the homes: the regular sunnah prayers, the Duha prayer, the supererogatory prayers, the night prayer, and the Witr prayer. Enliven your homes, O believers, with prayer, for prayer is the light of the believer and the light of homes. So illuminate them with the sunnah and supererogatory prayers, and do not make them dark graves. Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Jabir ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with both, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When one of you has completed his prayer in his mosque, let him allocate a share of his prayer to his home, for Allah will place in his home, from his prayer, goodness.”
May Allah bless me and you in the Quran and the Sunnah, and benefit me and you with what is in them of verses and wisdom. And I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Great, the Majestic, for myself and for you and for all Muslims from every sin and transgression. So seek His forgiveness, for He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Second Sermon: Blessing in Homes
Praise be to Allah for His grace, and gratitude to Him for His guidance and His favors. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, in exaltation of His status. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, the one who calls to His pleasure. May Allah send prayers upon him, upon his family, and upon all his companions.
As for what follows: O believers, enlivening homes with the remembrance of Allah, the Most High—through prayer, recitation of the Quran, greeting the residents, and naming [Allah] upon entering and exiting and during meals—brings life to homes with blessing, goodness, and bliss. Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Abu Musa al-Ash’ari, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The example of a home in which Allah is remembered and a home in which Allah is not remembered is like the example of the living and the dead.”
O believers: If we wish to enliven our homes with blessing, let us spread in our homes the good word, the word that is filled with love, appreciation, and respect for the members of the household. And the members of the household, whom you mix with more than others, are the most deserving of the good word that adds sweetness to the home. And Allah, the Exalted, said: “And say to My servants that they should say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dispute] among them. Indeed, Satan is to man a clear enemy” [Al-Isra: 53]. So the good word unites hearts, and bad speech incites hearts against one another. So be gentle with your women, and be gentle with your sons and daughters, O servants of Allah. Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad from the Mother of the Believers, Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When Allah, the Exalted, intends good for the people of a household, He brings gentleness into them.”
Pray and send peace upon the Imam of the God-fearing, and the master of the prophets and messengers, for Allah has commanded you to do so. He said, the Exalted in His wisdom, in the clear revelation: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and give [greetings of] peace with [due] submission” [Al-Ahzab: 56].
Indeed, the sending of prayers upon the Prophet is a testament
