Participation in the Kingdom of God is a voluntary decision that requires the person to set aside their everyday preoccupations in order to experience an inner transformation through putting on the divine armor, which then becomes visible outwardly.

And I invite you to simply pray briefly with me again and say, I open my heart. Holy Spirit, I thank you that you are here, I thank you that everyone who is here is not here by accident, but that you have something for each person that is divine

The text is the second part of a sermon series on the Kingdom of God, which begins with a time of communal prayer. The speaker uses the biblical parable of the wedding feast (Matthew 22) as a central metaphor to explain the relationship between God and the human being. He emphasizes that participation in the Kingdom is voluntary but requires an active surrender, which is symbolized by wearing the 'armor of God.' The original guests who did not come or who killed the messengers are cited as an example of indifference or rejection. In contrast, all people, 'the wicked and the good,' are invited from the streets, which underscores the universality of the invitation. The speaker transfers this to contemporary life: one is often too busy with the blessing (work, family) to celebrate God, and must learn to let this power be tapped. The goal is to change one's own heart in order to have a positive influence on one's surroundings, with the 'festal garment' serving as a symbol for the inner transformation through God's power.

Welcome to the podcast from ICF Essen. I'm really happy that you've tuned in and are here, and I wish you some truly good inspiration and an encounter with Jesus. And if you like, subscribe to the channel and activate the bell, then you'll always be up to date. And now let's get started. I'm really happy to jump into the next part of our sermon with you now. Kingdom of God. Kingdom of God. Timo started last week and it's a bit cool what you just said, Welchi. When you look from afar, yes, then God made the earth wonderfully. Yes, the closer you look, the uglier it sometimes gets. Yes, you see this beautiful earth, yes, and then you eventually arrive and then you see wars and then you suddenly see your heart and then you think, oh, what happened to the beauty, and the cool thing about God is, he doesn't just want to make the earth beautiful, but with Kingdom of God, that's about, as Timo told last week, how God makes your heart beautiful. How God wants you to move forward with strength and with joy, so that your heart is beautiful and your heart can positively change your surroundings. And last week, and this week is about how do I live from the strength that is in this kingdom, under what conditions can I actually tap into the strength, so that something can be changed in my heart? What does that look like? And I invite you to simply pray briefly with me again and to say, I open my heart. Holy Spirit, I thank you that you are here, I thank you that everyone who is here is not here by accident, but that you have something for each person that is divine, that you have a thought for each person, a step, that you have an idea, thank you that you challenge us, thank you that you encourage us, thank you that you are always for us and we open our hearts for the good things that you have. And no power in the world can prevent you from speaking to us now, that you deeply anchor life-changing truths in our lives. And we are ready for that, Jesus, we look forward to it. And we are ready to be challenged, even if it's maybe just difficult at the beginning. We see through that, we see through the difficulties. And we give you our life circumstances, we give you our questions now, so that you can go full speed ahead in our lives. Amen? Very good. So, how do I live from the strength of God? A description in the Bible for the strength of God is often clothing. Do I know if you know that? There's a Bible verse, it says, put on the armor of God. Yes, the armor is a symbol that I am on my way with God's strength. Put on the new man, take off the old man. Put on the garments of salvation, put on the weapons of light. Yes, often clothing is a symbol that God has changed something in our heart and it becomes visible outwardly. Yes, that's still the case. Yes, when you go to the doctor who has a coat on, when you're stopped by the police, yes, has a uniform, that shows something, with what authority one is on one's way. It shows something, the power that has been given to one. It shows, with what from whom one has been commissioned, what one can do and what one would like to do. And the clothes, clothing is often in the Bible a sign that God's strength in our heart triggers something. And I'm taking you now into a story, it's also about clothing. I'm reading the story now once completely, because it's curious and it's also a bit, you just have to hear it in context. Yes, because it's a story that is, who can see it now. Yes, if you didn't have it in context, then you'd think I had left something out. Yes, because so many things happen there that actually don't happen one after the other. So Jesus had this History invented, it is a parable about the kingdom of heaven, a parable about the kingdom of God. And the story, the one that unfolds, it unfolds slowly, slowly, slowly, I am excited, yes, but the story, the one that unfolds, is that a king holds a wedding for his son and that he would like to invite people. Yes, God is this king in this story. A wedding is also often a symbol for the kingdom of God and so goes the story that Jesus invented. With the kingdom of heaven, with the heavenly rule, so with the kingdom of God, it is like with a king who held the wedding for his son. When the time came, he sent his servants out to call those he had invited to the feast. But they would not come. So someone is invited to a wedding, is then reminded again, so, now it is time, yes, but they do not want to come. So he sent servants out again and had the invited ones told that the feast is prepared, oxen and fattened calves have been slaughtered, everything is ready, come and be seated. But they do not care at all about it, one has to do in the field, the other in the business. So obviously, yes, if one is invited to this wedding, if one is invited into this kingdom, that seems to be voluntary. Yes, one does not have to come, yes, one can somehow decide against it, yes, or one can also come. Some, however, now it gets crazy, yes, and now you would not believe me that it stands one after the other, that is why I simply read it in order. Some, however, seized the servants, mistreated them and killed them. The king became angry. He sends his people, yes, he invites everyone once and the people who deliver the message are killed. The king became angry, he sent his troops out, had those murderers killed and their city set on fire, yes, a lot happens in two sentences, yes, so incredibly much. Then he said to his servants, so the ones who are still alive, that the wedding feast is prepared, but the guests I had invited were not worthy. Now go out to the streets and invite everyone you meet, yes, so there were some invited, some not invited, the ones who were invited, the ones who were invited, did not want to come. Now go, now the king sends his servants out and says, listen, just invite anyone you find. The people you meet. That is a prerequisite to participate in the wedding, to be part of the kingdom, is that one must be there. One must be met, yes, invite everyone you see, one must be seen. Everyone is invited at this point and you, as it is seen, then you are invited. The servants did this and they brought in everyone they found, evil and good. So the wedding hall filled with guests. If the wedding hall is the kingdom of God, then it is now really uncomfortable for many of us, yes, when we notice, oh, there are also evil people invited. There are also those invited whom I perhaps do not like at all. There are the people with whom I have no contact at all, with whom I am perhaps even in conflict. They could now theoretically also be in the kingdom of God. When the king came in to see who had come, he himself did not know, he found one who was not wearing a wedding garment. So obviously in this wedding hall of the wedding there is a man who was not dressed festively. And that is of course noticeable, that is certainly not only noticed by the king, that is also noticed by the other guests. And that is something the king now addresses. My friend, he says to him, so the king to the man who was not dressed like all the others, how did you come in here without a wedding garment? But the man had no answer to that. There the king orders his servants to bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness. There is where the weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be. For many are called, but few are chosen. What a crazy story, right? If a movie were made of it, we wouldn't watch it because we wouldn't understand it at all. We wouldn't even know what's going on, why the servants are being killed and at the end even the man who wasn't properly dressed, maybe you think to yourself, I was also once not properly dressed at my wedding, good thing I survived that. There are so many crazy things in this story. And what does that have to do with the power of God at all? What does that have to do with what's inside my heart? I'm just going to share a few thoughts I have about this curious story. The first thought is, the kingdom of God is ready for you. You are invited to celebrate the king, to celebrate the son of the king, who is getting married. But you don't have to come, it's voluntary, you can choose for yourself. And I love that, I say this very often up here on the stage, if you're here for the first time, we are here in the free church and with us, you don't have to believe anything. You are always invited to believe something. But we don't expect you to believe anything. What I wish for is that you start trying things that are in the Bible, where God says, this will change your life. I am for you, I am with you. I mean it well with you, so that you can live your best life. Try that out, that's my wish. But everyone is invited, just like at this wedding feast, no matter what you believe. And in any case, this wedding feast will take place. The king didn't think, well, if nobody comes, then let's just cancel. So the wedding takes place in any case, if I don't come, other people will come. The kingdom of God, that will happen. And many people who are invited, maybe it's like that for them, like for these two people or like for these guests who were invited but didn't come, they say, I'm too busy. Yes, I have to work, I have to go to the field, I have to go to the shop. They had things to do. And applied to today, maybe it's like that for you too, that you're also too busy. Yes, you're not right now, you specifically took the time out of your life and came here this morning. You take the time out to be on the road with God, even if you maybe can't be here today and are watching online, maybe afterwards, yes. But you might be too busy with the blessing that God has given you, to manage that blessing. Crazy, right? Yes, God gives you something that you can manage. God gives you something that you can build up. God has a blessing for you. But very often it's like this, that we are too busy with the blessing that God has given us, that we can't be part of the wedding feast, not part of the kingdom of God, that we are not ready or not able to celebrate and worship the giver of the blessing in the kingdom of God. That can be your business, your family, your life, your health, your finances. God says, I have something for you. I have something for you. That is an invitation. I want you to be there, because I want your heart to be transformed in this kingdom. Maybe you're also really angry at the people who are now on the road with Jesus and simply proclaiming this kingdom, yes. Maybe it's a bit like that for you, yes. Maybe not you right now, but maybe you know people who, when you invite them to church, immediately shut down, immediately get angry, yes. That you're almost about to be killed, yes. Just because you're passing on the message of the kingdom of God. Hey, I believe Jesus would tell you do good in your life. Shut up. Do I have nothing to do with that? Yes, that is completely unacceptable. And so it's a bit like, yes, kill the mailman, yes. Or you kill me now because I'm talking about it or something like that, yes. Everyone is invited. And maybe you already are, maybe you have experienced it, that people are so angry because they are so hurt by what has happened in their heart. Everyone is invited. Everyone is invited. The Kingdom is not a club with members, yes, but a movement, a fellowship. Something where we are on the road as ambassadors of the Lord and as a quasi-organism are strong together and can carry this message further. The Kingdom is not something where you come in and consume. The Kingdom is there so that you also pass it on. The Kingdom is what we want to live here. The Kingdom is where we want to invite you, if you are here for the first time today, that you participate and say, I'm going over to the Connect Team right now and let me get connected to this church. I am there to pass something on, because the Kingdom is always something for taking and for giving. So everything is prepared. Oxen, fattened calves, everyone is invited. And now a brief reflection for us, godly people. We believe that yes, also that everyone is invited. We are also glad that we are invited, but sometimes we don't deal with it as if everyone is invited, but we only pass the invitation on to the people we believe it would be nice if they were part of this church. If they become part of the Kingdom of God. If we think, they deserve to meet Jesus. If we think, they are ready, if we think, they are ready to meet Jesus. We are then like, we don't invite all people to church at all. We don't share the faith we have with all people at all. We don't wear our Jesus-loves-you T-shirt in all places, because we think, if I go there with that, that's also a bit difficult. Through our behavior we sometimes don't reflect what the Kingdom is. The Kingdom says, everyone is invited. And we think to ourselves, he's not ready yet, the family has to first get their life together. He stinks too much to me, he doesn't have his addiction under control or whatever. Maybe that you have also already denied someone the invitation. Not specifically now, he doesn't deserve Jesus or something obviously, but simply in our heart. God has invited them, God has invited everyone. And God needs you to deliver the invitation, but something fails in that this invitation reaches the person. Maybe today is the day, you can now immediately take out your phone, after the service and write and say, hey, I'm pushing this on me, my pastor said, I should invite you to church. I actually didn't want to do that, of course, you don't have to write it, but you can think it, push it somehow on me and say, hey, the pastor said, I have to invite you. Or we are just in the process of considering whether we will go to the cinema again in the autumn and additionally hold a service there. Maybe you start now and say, hey, look, you like going to the cinema, soon you can also go to the cinema on Sunday mornings. I'll pay too, yes, it's free, yes, you can invite everyone. Yes, you can always say, I'll pay the admission for you, yes, it costs nothing anyway. But start talking about it, because God has invited everyone and we should also invite like real ambassadors. And we should also rejoice about it and invite other people. And not stand in the way of this invitation. Now the story continues. Now there is this man, because of the wedding, it is obviously noticeable that who is not dressed festively, yes. And now it is good to know what the context of this story is. The king at that time, when there was a wedding, he most likely not only prepared the food, that is, slaughtered the oxen and the fattened calves, but also provided the festive clothing for his guests. Perhaps he even had them tailored, yes. And then there was probably at the entrance of the wedding such an area where the guests would hand in their normal clothing, with which they had come. And then there were such changing rooms, which I picture a bit like at the swimming pool, yes, on one side you go in, then you change, on the other side you go out again and then you go into the swimming pool, yes. And that was there, yes, perhaps there was also a tailor there who then stood and said, oh, there is still something that should be changed a bit, because weddings did last several days, so it would have been worth it if someone had been there who would have fixed the problem. And so it is actually also prepared. And the king, he wonders, how did you actually get in here? Because actually everyone who comes, yes, goes through this changing room and changes. It is like at the swimming pool, if you suddenly stand there with clothes on, yes, how did you get in here? Yes, that actually doesn't work at all, yes. But that is, the king brings that up. Because obviously, yes, the king says, hey, if you are at the wedding feast, if you are in the kingdom, then there is a clothing standard. Then there is a standard with which we are all sitting here. And I have prepared this standard. You are invited, you also don't need to achieve this standard before you come. You don't need to come to the wedding with the festive clothing, you receive the festive clothing at the wedding and then go into the wedding hall with the festive clothing, because that is the standard. Because the standard, if you are invited, you don't need, that is not the standard to invite you, that is the standard to sit in there. Yes, if you want to celebrate with, then the standard is important. And the standard is righteousness. The standard is righteousness. God says, you are righteous in my eyes, I have prepared everything. You are saved, you are redeemed, I have called you by your name, you are righteous in God's eyes. No one who is invited to the wedding could achieve this standard for themselves. No one needs to bring their own clothes. No one, you may simply come. No good deed can achieve that. You may accept the righteousness from the outside, when you come to the wedding, when you go into the kingdom of God, then someone stands there and hands you your new clothes and says, I have prepared everything for you. Here is the righteousness. Put on the righteousness. And that is why, because none of us can achieve this standard, you receive the clothing from the king. But obviously that is also voluntary. This man did not put it on. Whether you put it on is your decision. Because then a process begins. If you begin to put on the royal clothes, if you begin to put on God's clothing, God's power, in the kingdom, then something begins in your heart. He makes you more holy, he makes you more like he is. He would like you to live in discipleship. He gives you next steps, he gives you challenges, he gives you opportunities to make your heart better. He takes you as you are, but he does not leave you that way. The Ede said that super well at the Wurschtübneid. Yes, there used to be in elementary school for example these friendship books. And then there was always such a section of these friendship books, what I still want to tell you will. And very often one has written, stay the way you are. And that is actually nonsense, if I had stayed the way Simone from the fourth grade wished for me in my friend book, then I would not be here now. And so it is with God as well. God does not want us to stay where we are. He wants our hearts, he wants to bring us further, he wants to make us more like him, he wants us to be on the way. He brings us into the community in a church, so that other people are there who help us not to have to stay the way we actually are. The Kingdom there, you are allowed to change. How do you deal with sadness? How do you deal with illness? How do you deal with your short fuse? But the man, he obviously did not want that. He wanted to be the way he is. Maybe you have been going to church for years. Maybe you still have the same clothes on inside. You are still just as mean as you were 20 years ago, as you were, as before. You have stayed the way you are, as you were in the fourth grade and someone filled out your friend book for you. No change. We could change it, but we do not. The man could change it, but he does not. Because we do not want God's will, we do not want to celebrate God, but we simply want to benefit from him and impose our own will. The man perhaps came to the wedding. He was handed the clothing, he put it aside and still went in. It is not the change that God has planned with us. It is not the standard that he has. It is not what the Kingdom can do with you. And now pay attention to the reaction of the king. The king comes in, the king is God. And he sees this man who is not wearing the festive clothing. And he says to him, my friend, we always think God is angry. God is the one who stands up there or wherever he stands, and he says, we always think God is the one who says, wrong again, are you crazy, now put that on finally, what are you doing there, why are you like

Herzlich willkommen beim Podcast vom ICF Essen. Kingdom of God. Kingdom of God. Ja, Gott gibt dir etwas, was du verwalten kannst. Gott gibt dir etwas, was du anmauern kannst.
