One who has learned much knowledge tends toward self-deception and must, through humility and reverence, acknowledge the immeasurable depth of the Buddha's teaching.
The text first tells the story of a thirsty man who finds a deep water source but cannot descend because he is afraid he will not be able to climb back up. This story serves as an introduction to a dharma teaching on the Jātaka stories and their significance. The speaker explains that Jātaka stories are stories from previous lives of the Blessed One, while Dhamma stories concern events of the present. He warns against focusing too much on the stories and losing sight of the actual subject. The text addresses the danger of self-deception: monks who have learned much knowledge might think they are equal to the Buddha. The Buddha taught the Mūlapāyāsa Sutta to make clear the depth of his wisdom and to foster the humility of his disciples. The central message is that one should practice the Buddha's teaching with humility and reverence, without elevating oneself.

There was a man who was thirsty. He went looking for water, very thirsty indeed. He searched and searched but could not find any; there was no water to scoop up anywhere. Then he found a well. Oh, he was very happy. He looked into it and saw real water, but the well was very deep. What was he to do? He had no rope, nor any bucket to draw water. He tried to go down to get some, to go down to get some, but once he was down, he was afraid he would not be able to climb back up. Thirsty, he was thirsty. This man, what did he do? He was willing to die.
The name of the Dhamma is "Sathan Witthu" (or similar transliteration), the heart of the Thai Buddhist sermon. Listen to the Dhamma program. With the morning, come to listen to the sermon. Every day, the sermon will bring stories that are unique and varied. Whether it is about practice, meditation, or the core points, all of it can be brought along and applied in daily life. Or we may speak about the Pali Canon. Sometimes, one may hear quotations from the scriptures. As for every day like this, we will tell stories. We will tell stories that are in the Pali Canon. Some are Jataka tales, some are Dhamma tales. It is those tales in the scriptures. It does not mean that the stories are merely for entertainment. But the tales in the Pali Canon, in this context where they are called that, refer to things that came before, that are the root that came before, that are the cause that came before. Which, as you know, is said to be... dealing with the Adi (beginning), where the Buddha was born as an enemy, or a person, or a deva, or in previous Jatakas, whatever it was. It is the Jataka, or the story that encounters that person, that individual, in the present Jataka, or has some cause or event that arises. This is called a Dhamma tale. The part that is the tale is an added part to the listening, added to the core of the Dhamma. Good, the Buddha established in the Vinaya, clearly and distinctly, comparing similar and different parts, giving examples, speaking of cases like this that can be applied, and then causing benefit to oneself and others. This is the most important thing.
Regarding the establishment of meditation, it is not like that. This is just general speech, ordinary prose. But if the prose does not reach the core, there is only the chapter that is carved and engraved beautifully, with a clear and distinct form. One is the core. They recite the verses. At this point, there are letters carved and engraved, there are stories that are wondrous and marvelous. People then become overly interested in that matter. Therefore, the Buddha had to emphasize, every time, not to get sidetracked. If one gets sidetracked, one does not try to lose time going off the path, not following the path that has the composition, it becomes a transport-like manner. Like the story that the Buddha told, one gets bored with practice, one gets down when tired, not to be a scholar, not to be a researcher. Because this name will not arise from mere research alone, and will result in success arising. Do not be completely wrong in importance. Then there is an example of a story to hope for, because the story of a person who is truly wrong, who thinks, "Oh, I have memorized all the knowledge and learning, everything. Good, excellent, clever. I am finished, better than or equal to others." It is not a deception. And this group of monks, in that time, the Buddha was at Ukkalata, in the region of Supparaka. He expounded a sutta called the Mulapariyaya Sutta. Listen to the Jataka tale, hope for it. It is called the Mulapariyaya Jataka. It was a time when there were 500 monks. Before they came to ordain, the original status of those monks was in the Brahmin caste, in the Brahmin village. Since childhood, they learned Brahmin knowledge, knowledge of the Vedic chants, the verses of the Brahmins, all of it. They knew everything, finished everything. This one, did he come to ordain in the religion? Yes. So, where did he learn the teachings of the Buddha? He learned the Vinaya, he learned the Pali Canon. That is, the Pali Canon, as it is heard. If we speak of literature, it has existed since the time of the Buddha. But it was not in a clear form like in the present, where the scriptures are in book form, clearly in three Pits. In earlier times, it was not written down and taught in the form of books like in the present. This is certain because they did not have paper, it is different. There may have been oral transmission, but the parts that were transmitted orally, the parts that had differences, would be many. Whether it is the Majjhima Nikaya, the Anguttara Nikaya, these are forms that were compiled since the time when the Buddha was still alive. An example that we can see is in the Sangiti Sutta, where the Venerable Ananda compiled them together as an example. That is, taking suttas that have the same heading or the same number, and grouping them together. This is the one-item, this is the two-item, three-item, and so on, ten items, ten items grouped together. The beginning of the compilation has existed since before the Buddha, from the discourse. The compilation means to gather together, to make it so that one understands it all the same, that this teaching is spoken and chanted in the same way, like this, like this. Then, afterwards, they waited to record and gather it. The gathering has already existed. Commander Prowas. If the Buddha spoke any words, you, sir, please note them down and keep them in mind.
Then, write it down and keep it well. If you cannot remember, write down whatever you can. If you cannot write it down, then you cannot remember it. At this point, we have enough to write down for today. We use the words of the Buddha repeatedly, in order to create a shared understanding. We have gathered much of the knowledge of the monks. We recite the Buddha’s words repeatedly, covering every sutta, every topic, everything, every branch. And we remember it all. Yes, wonderful, beautiful. The Buddha, the monks, the nuns, the Buddha—whatever is remembered, that is their knowledge. And we remember all of that knowledge. We have the same knowledge. I think, “We have the same knowledge, so how are we different? We are the same.” The Buddha knows things, and we know those things. We know things. The Buddha is an Arhat, and we are also Arhats, the highest. Strive and listen. This is striving. Thinking like this is not correct. It must be accurate according to the standard. Previously, there was no Buddha. It must be accurate, considerable. That is, it is not coming. The strong force that carves the response, I must also have cancer, all of it, meters. It is a self-contradiction. Value, value, Sonorella Tories. That is a good thought, like that, arising. And then, in the era before there was the Ruba clan, that is, it comes from this kind of thinking. Here, when this kind of thinking arises, in that era, it was at Subhakhawan, at the city of Ukkathar. The Buddha then expounded, preached, and showed the sutta called the Mulabaryasutra, for them to listen. If new knowledge arose, it was there. Listen, that is the Mulabaryasutra, which is new knowledge, that was shown and preached, and at Ukkathar, that is the monks. They also encountered the group of monks, and themselves, having knowledge and strength according to the same, equal to the Buddha. However, the knowledge and wisdom of the Buddha, listen, is the great, profound, so deep that it cannot be said how deep it is. It is very deep. In the line that will go down to say how deep it is, here, here, until the end, it can still continue to be deeper. Oh, that wisdom is very deep. I have previously compared it thus: What the Buddha knows, understands, and can reveal, is approximately equal to the leaves on the Sipa tree. The Sipa tree is a very large tree that has many leaves; the leaves will fall, some will remain, or there will be large leaves, and it will become larger. The leaves of the Sipa tree, from the very beginning, are very many, reaching even the leaves that have fallen to the ground. If so, you would pick up 2-3 leaves from the Sipa tree in your hand. And we would say that what is taught is only this much. If in what is taught, it is only this much. If not, only this much is taught. Because the things that are known, they are not intended to cause a respectful, closer ten. The understanding of people, if it is exhausted. The part that is taught is only one handful. If so, that will be the cause for people to understand. Teach this matter well. Here, where it is said to be taught, is within the period of 45 years. And it remains until today, at this moment, every day. It has less, it has disappeared. You do not meet, you have forgotten. But there is still that. Good. Or other various knowledge, whether it is all prajna, all forest, both knowing for certain, but not told or taught, because it is not related to the matter that will lead to the result, the attainable result. On that day, the Mulabaryasutra was taught, which is the discernment and distribution of beings, that is, the comparison between ordinary people and the prajna person. This was also preached to the group of monks who understand themselves, to understand fully. But it is not preaching directly to them, but explaining to the depth of knowledge that is deeper than what has been said to be taught. The detailed matters, going deeper than that, how it is, how the earth element is. If the earth element exists everywhere, the water element, the wind element, we see it, we can touch it. They, food, the various levels of our body, ah, are the earth element. This is permeated, it can be called, it can be named. That is the water element, the heat of the new, this is the fire element, this is everywhere. And it can also be remembered, what is water, fire, wind, how it is. It is said to be recorded in the various suttas, recorded in the matter of the body, is there? Remember? That this kind of dhamma means the locking of Blue, or this kind of dhamma engages Caesar. Oh, the rising of the back, onyES Conservative existence, the Ruba Asia, do not in the according aged, young, with ace A and sawoke, and the language is different, because the young with ace A, oh, the hand bites, better before, because it must hold the Ruba cooperants, which in the era of the Buddha also had a clever child who knew that the Ruba clan was mixed, knew that the Ruba clan, which is the result of the mixed clan, we need the Buddha’s nature, do not see the truth, the Han, the CHEERING have, or Roman too, forget and follow, that the child Han, magnetisch, the loop is a parrot, a luggage, and the appearance can be a tree of written Wei, even though it has qualities lower than us, we must elevate it above us, especially, especially favored, because this praise is also a matter of, is the ability of
The conduct of the Buddha is exactly the same. Act in accordance with the teachings. Act well, act rightly. This matter of acting rightly is a topic for disciples to improve themselves. We cannot compare it with the conduct of monks. It is like a child who is obedient, humble, and has a place that has been corrected to an end. Remove one’s own poverty. It is kept hidden, like a snake that has made a mistake and had its tail cut off, having all its faults removed, simply by listening to this single sutra. Mulabariya Chud, who was outside, then followed the Buddha’s response again. Upon reaching the city of Vesali, he listened to the Khottama sutra along with the O’pika sutra. This O’pika sutra thus attained the Praharah. Hmm, it is a good thing. The 500 monks within had previously experienced this kind of service as well. It is a good thing. The Jati, I am not that. The Korisatwu, born within the qualities of the Buddha, must listen. This is a good thing. I was able to speak these words. Which, when spoken, these words, this speech, are deeply moving to the heart. Let us continue listening. The Buddha, the teacher of his own 500 disciples, this concerns self-knowledge. One is the Prorisatwu in that Jati, or within the qualities of the Buddha himself. This is the teaching. Or the Buddha has already taught everything. The Manufu, the disciples, are like the matter of self-knowledge that is examined, tested, and probed. Everyone. This is said easily, these words, spoken easily, are tested and probed. It is tested, written. Those who can be deceived, asked in order to be deceived. The matter of knowing is to memorize the notes and then come down to answer the correct written answer. One’s own self. The matter of having a bias arises. Bias must be listened to; it is a sign of a secret in the telling of one’s own self. Until the point where they do not. The Rukshin, they, on one day, came and observed that the Ajat was at the base of the Phutsa tree, then caught doing this and that. Sitting there dazedly, sitting coldly. The Shinwanlen went to find him. Ah! It is a lot, staring at me, having a bias, without any Rueha. This Pan, this Nikwan, came to find, will not be Hstad Presidente. 03-3 or Hruen, Jik PI, that is, walking, then came to find. Bai kwa, that is, walking, then came to find. It does not matter, it is nothing, but that everyone, everyone, take the Leung Tha Mwan, kwa, Leung yi, tha, Liquid. Go to the base of the Phuj throughout, ask to see the Ajarn, see the Ajarn that this Karn has nothing to teach us to add much more. This is because the Prorisatwu thus spoke. So let us continue with the problem. I will follow one problem. And if we find a solution, I say, you win. Okay, we have a feeling, truly. These disciples, right here, that is, then I will get with these disciples, we will compete to see who is skilled, who. The question is as follows. The Prorisatwu, the teacher, asked his 500 disciples this: When it eats the whole animal, the Praam, including itself, who is the one who eats this time? Eating time is not making time lost. For example, sometimes we go to enjoy ourselves, and we have another person, oh, speaking a lot, truly. This eats his time. Or this sermon is very long, eating my time, continuing for him. This is not eating time together. But the time that eats the whole animal, the Praam, including itself, who is the one who eats the time? Listen, then, reflect. I reflect. These disciples, time? The Ara? Eating? First, let us calm our minds. In any case, the time eats the whole animal, the Praam, including itself. What does the word mean? Time. They say that the time comes from the word “Karak.” Thus, the Karak here can mean death, or performing love, holding death, or the Karak that means time, for example. Such as the time before meals, the time after meals, the time before departure, the time of sleep, the time of waking, the time after departure, the time of illness. We can also say the time of death. Nah, time. If we have finished, we come to the Karak. This time moves through the flow of time... all the time. As time moves through the flow, it eats various things, existing in the flow of time. For example, tick, tick, tick. This is time, the name of a person. But it is not that we have ticked, as spoken, it has MA, flown away. Well, how can it be said? It is right, time has eaten it. The state of being a child has disappeared. Tick, utilis, remain. Ah, nil, se, yyy, easy. When this disappears, where does it go? Sign-They’re gone. He has been eaten. Tian hai you, quietly. Time, time has its own self, eating others as well. Therefore, there is no stone. This must be understood in meaning. Two words, if not zd, don’t say that it went to eat a little. It is like this. The question is, then who is the one who eats this time? Ah, well, time is already eating people, eating every person, already. Then who will come to eat this time? Give 7 days. The teacher gave the disciples 7 days to think deeply, to reflect, to find the answer in this matter. Come in 7 days. If after 7 days you still do not know the answer, I will help. The one who is the teacher, I tell you, there is a mother. You cannot think that you will make the disciples lose, or that you will strike them down to make them suffer. But you must teach. You must give knowledge. You must give goodness and beauty to the disciples. A good teacher, right? There are also teachers who are not good. A teacher who is not good will have the thought that this disciple does not follow my words. I will tell them to be expelled, or
The Nintada Dawahai Sia Hai Dharma Dee, but if the Ajarn Tee Dee will try to maintain the Luksit. This is also saying that 500 people only came to be watched by the Awang, like the Tan Phu Sa Mai Kan. You still have Metas to teach, teaching until who is the Phuu Kin Karawela, not thinking for 7 days, Tumfang, Phud Hua Nela, wherever. Who will come to be the Phuu Kin Wela? Well, it eats everything plan. It was seen, CS violations. Only someone who is afraid of coming to eat time, no. So I started to IFT. Oh! The appet that we do not know, it also has this. The thing that we do not know, it also has, but the Ajarn R Coffee. Oh! He, who has been here for a long time, all of them. Buaang, every Kamjad goes out. Not seeing the Ngan Nam of the Panya, that this Ngan also has to be Puk to be fixed like this. This Ngan is not seen, so it is not necessary to speak of being able to fix it. This answer, Hua Dam all of them. Even if inside there is no Panya, it is like the Chao Tan that they placed here. That is, placed, together, like looking far away, not knowing. Is this Hua Khon or Wa? Phl Tan, must use hand to catch until Jru, because it is different, well, is there a Panya? There is a Chong Hu, it is, but also inside there is a Sing Khong, there is a Samong, or hollow. Inside there is only a Chong Hu, like. Oh, Trakarn, ask for the answer, must listen. One, because he understood, then closed it. Excuse me, Por Thichat, this is to give the answer directly, that the Phuu Kin Karawela is also the Prapatsaning, the Phuu Phet Tan Ha, Dab Ili Th, all of them, then, in the Neua Karawela. The Karawela will do what danger to you? No, then, that it must continue to happen, Chati Mai, there is a happening, then there is a death, Wela is Watta, Mun, going around, going around, going around, Mun, Yut Yut Yut, Yut, then, because it is a Prakin Asb, then, it is a Praran, then, Praran is the Phuu Yin Karawela, Yut Klap, all things that must be Watta, continuing, down, right, Buaang, know, Valentine, then, because Wasmay, Denen, there is no Phra Boricha, Wan, out, there is no Phra Boricha, Watsu, Gery, in the teaching about Praran 37 B? But Zd Herkes, no, by Holders, Nao Nao Id, that the Pan Dhamma Trrom Chap came out, but that the part itself still cannot make the Bon Luk, because the Borya is still not full. The Phra Chao brought this story to listen to is the Mulab Prapaya Chada K, is an event that Prap made to show the Mulab Prapaya Suti, and to see the depth in the Panya of the Phra Chao. As for the many things, from what, I think, bring us to listen, and there is still a lot, in the Chum of the Tay Rom Phra Dee Bhat, every day, Phut, but Nam Mi Fang, want to listen to what only in this Prasun, then go find it according to the Faang in Nevisort, from us, that we brought to listen to today is the Mulab Prapaya Chada K, is a story, indeed, that happened, in the time when the Phra Phra Chao was born as the Sacati Sabam, which the Phra Phra Chao, this is the Phuu Dee Chuey Luea Khon, is the Phuu that has the Kruan, still has the Khani, the Khani that will be brought to compose, this day, that is different, helped everyone else, because helped everyone else, then, that person also came to help you back, some came to support, again, which, together, is the story of the Phra Racha Ong Tamwang in the Chada K that is called the Tiritiwat Chap Chada K, the action, to, show, the pattern, that, to, Taang, also, ready, that we will see, whether it is too much, or, is it t
