Excessive trust and negligence can cause harm, while complete distrust also leads to distress; therefore one should study Jataka stories for their Dhamma point.
The text is a transcribed Thai Dhamma lecture that is broadcast over a radio program featuring Jataka stories. At its center is the Jataka story of Visasati-Pho-Chana, in which a king is born as a tiger and suffers harm through familiar closeness to a deer. The core message is that excessive trust and negligence can bring harm, while complete distrust also leads to distress. The text emphasizes that Jataka stories are to be heard not merely as entertainment but as carriers of Buddha-Dhamma themes. The necessity is highlighted of grasping the actual point of a story in order to derive benefit from it. A further section describes a tradition of fire worship in Takkasila, in which a birthday fire is maintained. The text links these narratives with the warning against blind trust in known persons and objects.

There is a tiger that is depressed and listening. There is love in the flesh of the tiger. Love reaches out and asks where the tiger goes. It licks both the front and the back, but does not eat it. With close love, it goes to lick the tiger. Then there is another flesh of the tiger. There is no enmity in the search for the yellow tiger and another tiger. It goes to lick the mouth of the tiger. It licks the mouth of the yellow tiger. But the yellow tiger and the tiger do not eat it. Peters, his wife, i.e., the head of the house, is enough. This is the wisdom of the Dhamma broadcast from Thailand, with the Dhamma program "Harun" meeting with the listener regularly at times like this. It is led by the wisdom of meditation, which has the participation of the Thai-speaking public, as the promoter of culture. This is just a regular meeting with the listener, bringing stories that have various differences. Whether reading the Dhamma, or about the creation of beings, or the Dhamma sermon, or answering questions, or in daily happiness like this, it also brings the Jataka tales to tell. The period of the Jataka tales, the Jataka tales, the tales according to the Buddha, which are in the Pali Canon, in the section of stories. If there is a topic that is interesting, it is set as a heading, a topic. Sometimes there are different parts, crossing over, to see the details, in order to hope that one can gain knowledge, as a heading, as a foundation, which is the Buddha's teaching, the path of the Jataka tales. Do not listen to the Jataka tales as just a story that is fun, exciting, scary, grand, and wonderful. We will get to the topic, but listening to the Jataka tales must grasp the topic and information to reach the peak of it. This is the characteristic of studying the Abhidhamma that must have a heading first, which is the Buddha's teaching, broadly, without forgetting the heading set as a topic, so that it does not fall into the content of the story without a topic. Then the study of the Abhidhamma will be beneficial, as hoped. The topic set up today is about trust. If we say that we have a lot of trust, too much, it will lead to negligence and become a harm to others. We also have this. If we say do not trust, do not let your guard down, you will be at a loss, because negligence is the cause of all kinds of harm. For example, in the story of the Visasati Jataka. Visasati means trust. With kindness, with familiarity. Bhakshana means food. Food arises from kindness, from familiarity, bringing about harm. How? Because the owner is familiar. In the Jataka where the deer was born as a deer, and there is a farm, that is, farming, with fields, with various things. And there is raising, that is, raising a cow, a large cow. Part of it is the mother cow. The person raising the cow, the children, will bring the milk to the deer regularly, every day. The deer drinks the milk that comes from its own farm every day. It is happy, has no problems, no worries. I also take milk from the same place. But I noticed that during this time, I don't know what it is afraid of. I went to look, because there is a tiger that has come to live at the edge of the forest, near our house. So it makes the cow afraid. Because the cow is afraid, it produces less milk. The deer receives it, and the person taking it knows. Oh! The cow is afraid of this tiger. So it is not at peace. It makes its mental and physical health not good. The milk therefore has no quality. Think about it, who is to blame? Then ask the cowherd. Try to observe. What does this tiger like? What does it like? Does it have any habits? What are its characteristics? The cowherd receives the instruction and goes to observe. To observe what this tiger does, where it goes, where it stays, at the base of trees, in the wind, without letting the tiger know. Because when the tiger enters the forest, it has familiarity with a deer. A deer of the same species. Familiarity means playing together, not eating it. But it is not known that it will become like that. But there is another story in the Jataka tales, in another part, that is heard, which speaks of how it can be similar in having a tiger cub whose mother died. The deer then gives it milk. Then it becomes more aggressive than its own cub. So there is familiarity. Approximately, it can happen. The harm arises in the deer because it was caught right there. The deer then takes it, do not let it be eaten by the tiger. But let the head, the body, from the face to the neck, to the back, to the belly, to the legs of it. If not once, if many times, if many times, it makes it weak, and then again, until it is confident many times. Wow, 2-3 days as well. The result of the tiger is that the tiger, with love for this deer, after 2-3 days of not seeing the deer, when they meet again, with love and affection, it will lick the body of the deer. After licking, it must eat the poison. The poison used is strong. It is released. After being released, the deer goes back to where it lives with it. It goes to where it stays, and does not find the tiger. This tiger really does this. It is known.
Due to the familiarity and love you have for one another, oh! We have not met for many days. Where have you been? I have completely forgotten about it. I have forgotten everything, forgotten the body, forgotten the face, forgotten everything. I have forgotten completely. The power lies in the skin of this body. Follow the lines, follow the seams of the garment. He raised his hand and struck its body. This garment also became weaker, thinner, younger. It died completely. The hope died. The neatness died. The people died. So, take out the bones of the body. The hope, take the flesh, take the skin, take the nails and claws of it. Bring them to the elder. The elder receives them and then speaks correctly. Thus, he speaks this up. The hope says: This affection has come to you, to this garment. Even this garment, the one that has nails and claws, has completeness with strength, has flesh, has skin, has strength, has vitality, yet it can still die. By the grace, the power that consumes, by the grace of affection, in the flesh and blood, in the month of Phruth, that is, being the elder, thus he speaks this matter up, saying: People should not be infatuated with those who are not yet familiar. Even with those who are already familiar, one should not be infatuated. Because suffering always comes from those who are familiar. When the suffering of the body arises from the mother’s womb, it can cause this very body to die. He raised this matter because of the group of ascetics in a certain forest. The story is named Visasambhava. This is the group of ascetics who are familiar. This group of ascetics, when they receive food, they receive the food from their own mothers. It is not just food and all kinds of spices. Jujubes, sugar, honey, various foods, medicines, these things, once received, are not considered. Before that, the group of ascetics in a certain forest can become fire. This strength will interlock and overwhelm the hope. Speaking of the fire that arises from the five elements, these, along with what you have seen in the mountain of the fire of the raw fire, the ascetics who have been placed, in this era, have come into the Anguttara Nikaya. It is possible to be a fault. That is, if that person dies, or if there is a fault in one place, or if they disappear, the ear falls, like not meeting, not being familiar anymore, sorrow and grief arise. Having lost heart and being sorrowful, one sets the mind incorrectly, makes the mind ill, so one does not understand and commits a fault in one place. Thus, one strays from the Dharma. This is possible. It interlocks with people who do not understand. It is a very, very, very, very, very great danger. And this matter also speaks of the inner garment and the outer garment. And then another pair of animals that have mutual affection in their mouths, that have mutual affection clinging to each other very much. Visasana also means mutual clinging. Therefore, the Buddha was a human being, born in the Kshatriya clan in the city of Kapilavastu. There was a king named Suddhodana ruling the kingdom. Born in the Kshatriya clan of the fire-worshipping, it is said that from childhood, from the day of birth, there would be this custom in the mouth of the fire-worshipping at that time, that if a child is born on a certain day, fire is lit. From the day of birth from the mother’s womb, and then that fire is kept from going out. It is called the fire of the day of birth. The fire of the day of birth is lit, kept, and given to the child who is born to be kept until the age of 16. Then, they receive instruction: You must take care of the fire of your day of birth. Do not let it go out. A little fire-worshipping, learning mantras, learning the science of fire, learning knowledge of all kinds until completion. Suffering at the age of 16. And then they go to perform the ceremony of initiation, to have mastery, to have excitement arise in this life. They teach it like this. Because when the child grows up, they learn knowledge and all kinds of things until the age of 16. Then the parents give this side to them. According to this custom, our instruction in that era, and then they give two paths in life. That is, now you have finished learning knowledge, what will you do next in life? Will you stay in the village, intensify knowledge, become a teacher with students, or will you enter the forest? That is, if you wish to engage in practice, you go to the forest for the practice of meditation and also go to live in the village, live in the front, ready to be released. And then, according to need, you must take care of and look after this fire so that it is good. Because this is the fire of your day of birth. Even if you keep it, it is good. You keep it on. One thing that has been received is gone. In the village, the villagers also offer food, offer food that is excellent rice. This rice is also rice mixed with meat. And then we, the flesh and various things. All the food in that era. Because after receiving it, it is neat. Give it to the fire. We eat food that is rice, is flesh, is water. This is also good. Because the fire is continuous. Different kinds of life. This oil covers, that oil covers this. Oh, it has come. It has come because it has been received. Wow! The fire is low. It also touches the straw that is made into a roof, the roof of the house itself. So, not fire, fire touches the firewood with dryness, being a fuel for fire. The fire eats the whole house. Because here, drinking and seeing is known, known quickly. We know animals. This side must take a long time. It must be continuous, continuous. Even if we keep it continuously for the day of birth, the fire-worshipping, this fire-worshipping continuously for the day of birth, by giving it fuel, giving it something, it has never gone out. It is also a search to say that there is nothing more dangerous than affection. Affection with people, it is a low thing, wild rice. Wild rice, that is, it is already wild rice, isn’t it? Deep wild rice goes further, is a hole, a tunnel, this rice.
I did not perform any rituals. I went to find fruits to eat. There is no need to get involved with ghosts. By performing merit through meditation, one can attain the state of meditation as desired. While on the path in the forest, one sees the events of the forest. One sees the flesh. It is the suffering of the body. This body has a name. It is called Sama. It went to lick the yellow shirt. And then it stayed there. Ah. Seeing things in the forest, in the mouth, it reflects on its own life as desired. Wow, making acquaintances. Things that are not good, dear, are not good. But making acquaintances can lead to such forest incidents. For example, making acquaintances with fire worship. Fire did not protect us. The yellow shirt, the dark shirt, wide. Making acquaintances. Ah, they can still be together, you see. So the forest separates them. This yellow one, until it is known that it is always a double-edged sword. Making acquaintances, ah, leads to love and satisfaction, that is true. But it can be dangerous. Like electricity, or sharp objects. Things that are thought to be not dangerous can actually be dangerous. That is, it can become a hazard. It is dangerous, it is everywhere. And will a hazard arise from that thing? O Lord, truly, do not underestimate. See the harm in the hazard, even if it is small. Beware of that harm. Beware of that fire. But it will arise from familiarity. But have mindfulness, have knowledge, have constant caution. Whether from people who are not familiar, or from women who also intend harm. Always do not underestimate. The matter of the Buddha, when he was a human being who used to worship fire, there will be a topic of similar matters. Because the monks who went to ask, all heard, is outside the temple of the Buddha. There is also a temple of fire worship there. Is that so? Following the Lord, he will lift up the story of the ascetic who ate flowers. Look at the fire worshipper. Fire did not protect the house. It kept watching, many things collapsed. This is the story of the ascetic who ate flowers. There is also the story of the lady who ate flowers. Scholars who were lost in the corners, whatever, it is also in the aloar. The putar k worms, the story of the Di, more like looked looking at minute, in the favorites. Mistakes, please be a world where the Yak upgrade is used in the Rama. High Laughter, take it, it does not come out, like a lie, tell the cow that the milk water is given to the cow. The cow receives the cow. Ah, it thinks that we have also received the cow. The good deed of ours, we want that. We will take this cow to worship the god, see the fire, so that the god is pleased. Because eating only milk and eating only these things for a long time. This time, let it eat meat. So we will take the meat, you see. No. And then we will worship so that it becomes fire. It must be made dry first. And then we will make the god see the supreme pleasure. And then we will be able to stay with the merit. But we will sell this cow. We do not have money yet. Let's go find money. And then we will sell and worship like that. As for this Brahmin, he will sell the cow to worship fire. Because the god is pleased. By going to find money first, the cowherd stayed in a place not far from his own village. Because during that time, when the Brahmin was traveling, it was like a village. The Brahmin, the cowherd, there were some people in the group, about 2-3 people, who came to that place. They divided the share, or not yet, until it was named. But the rest, the beginning, just this. And then they ate together, it was a bad thing. Because the Brahmin came back. Oh, why is it like this? Oh, the cow is gone. Only the bones are left. And then they were silent. And then they sat. And then the side was also there. 1. But the master came to eat the sugar cane, the story. Fire other retained effect üh chuckles. Afraid, lightly, the fire of the flame. That you did not see it as a leftover. We are not happy in the worship of the king, like the bones that are left. If we go, we will burn in the fire. We are doing it all together. We worship fire with the bones. Is it an investor? Or can it be outside? Misinformation choose this too. Because of rigid personalities, in the house, like the house that is together with the idiots who are full of suspicion. Truly, the village, then z km came to be a bee. For those who like meat, but the god, competing with fire, just receive it if you do. That is, take the head and keep it. Worship fire. That is, the normal history is that we worship. And then the meat, before getting that thing. And then before getting this thing. Oh! This fire will give you. Oh! But where? Making a history in every action, in every moment, is also like that. It can cause merit and purity to arise. Or not. We already got the answer from the two matters. That is, no. You are familiar with fire. That it did not bring benefit is a misunderstanding. Put down this water first. Leave it along the way. That is on the path. Put it down. That is, put it down. That is, it says that if you go and love it, you worship it. Because in that era, people who looked for water in the forest often did this. In order to worship various gods. Or put it down so that travelers can eat. In order to seek merit. They had this kind of practice. To give to the lord at this time. They also made this kind of trap. By replacing that place with water. That is not at all. It is a very strong wrong medicine. And when it is put down
Place it there, and it is perfect. Then, go and make gestures, make sounds. Let there be people searching for water, sitting by the river, waiting. By taking wood to scratch the eyes of this woman, it makes a sound. And there are people, travelers, who think: "Take these tears; they are the ones who brought water and placed it for the travelers to drink." They hope for merit. And if anyone thinks so, eat it. If you die, you die; it is finished. It is difficult to eat the flesh of those humans, who are numerous. Some see food wrapped up, see these hot tears. Those who are still not satisfied, hungry and thirsty, just grab and eat them. One group says: "Do not eat yet. Our master said: 'Wait a bit before eating.' Put it in your mouth, chew quickly, swallow it." So, they took that food and asked the Bodhisattva. They went down, took it, and gave it to the person who had eaten it first. It destroyed their mouth. It destroyed their mouth and they died. Oh! No need to ask anymore. What is this today? They went to ask the village elder and learned that this is a trap set by the demon Kumbhipas. And the doctor here: if you eat without considering, you cannot refrain, and you die. There is greed. As for those who can refrain, they go to ask first and do not die. Those who ate a little are given medicine to counteract it, then told to drink a lot of water and follow it with salt. Those who took the salt thus passed through that forest. They escaped. Not all the poison that the demon Kumbhipas set, which was swift. The Lord told this story to the monks to listen. The Lord, a monk who had the thought of ordination, wanted to be ordained. This is because, when going to alms-round, he did not see a complete person. He saw a village woman, young, adorned, beautiful. Thus, because he thought: "I will be ordained after this matter," meaning he saw the matter of lust. Lord, when a monk's mind wavers towards lust, this matter, when heard, arises in this assembly. Tormented, we, the Lord, said: "The demon named Kumbhi, seeking the flesh of the root, placed poison. This has a smell and looks like water, placed in the forest. If any of us comes and thinks it is water and eats that poison, that poison is very strong. It kills us. We must all enter death because of that poison. As for our animals, when they consider and know it is poison, and avoid it, our animals, when the animal that ate the poison encounters the poison, all the poison spreads. They themselves become happy, extinguishing suffering simply. Those who are attached to lust must listen. Among humans, beings should know it is poison. When the poison that the demon placed in another person, this merit is counted as the flesh of the world, and counted as the fetter that binds animals. Blessed one, having Dhamma, meaning the body is the path. Beings, those who are anxious, will abandon this merit, which is the body, purifying defilements in all times. Blessed one, it is counted as having transcended defilements, meaning the body in the world. When one abandons the poison that the demon placed in another person, thus, later there will be a picture of the Lord giving a sermon to the monks. This one, who is the enemy of ordination, you also have a mind that is loose and has eaten. You a
