The service to childhood is a sacred responsibility that aims to lead children to a balanced life through Christ, the Church, Scripture, the Fatherland, and Eternity.

Children are precious souls in Christ, children are pious souls in Christ, and children are souls who need Christ.

The text reports on the visit of Pope Tawadros II. to a conference for priests and deacons of childhood at the Monastery of Anba Bishoy. The Pope emphasized the significance of children as 'seeds and flowers' and read from Matthew 18. He defined the service to childhood as a responsibility that requires vision and program. Three principles were mentioned: God's love, the service of souls, and working with Christ. Five foundations for education were established: Christ, Church, Holy Scripture, Fatherland (Egypt), and Eternity. The Pope emphasized that children are precious souls who need Christ. The conference also addresses technology, mental health, and holistic education. The title 'Tetrágon' symbolizes balance as a central value.

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II inspected today, Friday, the works of the 2026 Conference of Priests and Ministers of Childhood, which is held for five days at the Logos Center in the Monastery of Saint Abba Bishoy in Wadi El Natrun, under the title “Tetrakon – TETRAGON” and the slogan “We are built, so we build,” organized by the Synodical Committee for Childhood. His Grace Bishop Anba Nofair, Bishop of Shebin El Qanater and Secretary of the Childhood Committee, presented the vision of the conference and a report on the participating priests and ministers representing the dioceses of the Coptic Orthodox Church within Egypt. For his part, His Holiness the Pope expressed at the beginning of his lecture his happiness with the holding of the conference, its vision, and its content, pointing out that “children are seeds and flowers,” then His Holiness read the chapter on childhood, Matthew 18. His Holiness said: “If you have only a vision, you are a dreaming minister; if you have only a program, you are a working minister; and if you have both the vision and the program, you are a true minister. And the ministry of childhood is a talent, a trust, and a responsibility.” Then His Holiness established three principles for the ministry of childhood, which are: 1- God still loves humanity because He still creates children every day. 2- We serve souls, not cups, so we must have the grace of consecration. 3- We work with Christ, and for Christ. His Holiness the Pope established five fundamentals for the ministry of childhood, which are: 1- Christ: The child must be filled with Christ, so that the love of Christ may be poured into him. 2- The Church: The child must feel that he is a member of the Church, and be affiliated with the Church from the day of his baptism. 3- The Holy Bible: The child must memorize the commandment, in the form of short, beautiful verses, and it is good for the child to memorize verses corresponding to the letters of his name. 4- The Homeland: The child must serve in his homeland, Egypt, from the beginning of his life, and the child must feel that he lives in a homeland distinguished from all other countries of the world, because Egypt is a Gospel land, mentioned in the Holy Bible, and has a great heritage throughout history. 5- Eternity: We must connect the child to heaven, and he must know that he has a place in heaven and that he ought to preserve it. His Holiness concluded his speech by stating that “children are precious souls to Christ, children are righteous souls to Christ, and children are souls in need of Christ.” Then His Holiness the Pope asked the participants what they learn from children, then His Holiness clarified that God sends us special messages through children. In the end, His Grace Bishop Anba Nofair presented a gift on behalf of the conference, and a commemorative photo was taken of the participants with His Holiness the Pope. During the conference, issues of technology and its impact on children’s growth, the psychological and spiritual health of the child, the development of creativity and critical thinking, and the comprehensive upbringing of new generations are discussed, alongside the role of the minister as an inspiring hero in the ministry, with the aim of enabling the child to live a balanced life and enjoy a strong, cohesive personality. “Tetrakon” was chosen as the title of the conference; it is a word of Greek origin meaning the four corners, or the square, and its meaning primarily conveys balance as an important and necessary value for man.
