True fasting in Ramadan consists not only of physical abstinence but of the comprehensive purification of the senses and actions, so that through God-fearingness and ethical conduct a more just and merciful community may be formed.
But it is not only our stomach that should fast! Our hands, feet, eyes, and ears should also fast.
The text of the DITIB Sermon Commission welcomes the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan and calls on believers to understand this time as a source of blessing and purification. It is emphasized that fasting encompasses not only the abstinence from food and sexual intercourse but also the restraint of the eyes, ears, and hands from lies and sin. The Prophet is quoted to make clear that ritual acts without inner God-fearingness and ethical integrity miss their true purpose. The community is encouraged to study the Quran and to participate in the communal prayers, so as to become more responsible and more pious. Welcome, blessed Ramadan!
(28.02.2025)
Dear brothers and sisters!
There are only a few hours left until the blessed month of Ramadan. God willing, we will welcome Ramadan this evening with the sunset. After the Isha prayer, we will perform the first Tarawih prayer, wake up for the first Sahur, and make the intention for the first fast. May Allah make the month of Ramadan a source of blessing for the Muslim community and all of humanity. May the ever-anticipated Ramadan also welcome us with open arms and fill us with kindness and mercy.
Brothers and sisters! Dear believers!
Ramadan is a blessing – for young and old, for women and men, for the rich and the poor – everyone carries special memories of it. Ramadan is like refreshing rain that fills dry souls with new life. Ramadan shines like the sun and gives cold hearts new warmth. It is like a gentle wind that carries the fragrance of Paradise.
Ramadan is a bridge that brings the rich and the poor closer to one another. It is a signpost that separates truth from error. Ramadan is a time of purification, an opportunity to attain forgiveness.[1]
Ramadan is a blessing; each of its days and each of its nights is worth a whole life. And Ramadan is a school that makes people more responsible and more pious.
Brothers and sisters!
In Ramadan, we are obligated to fast.[2][3] Fasting means abstaining from food, drink, and sexual intercourse from the dawn until the sunset.[4]
But not only should our stomach fast! Our hands, feet, eyes, and ears should also fast.
If we do not refrain from lying, backbiting, and slander during and after fasting, that means we have not fully understood the meaning of fasting. If our eyes look at what is forbidden, our hands reach for sin, and our feet stray from the right path, then we have not sufficiently recognized the purpose of fasting.
The Messenger of Allah emphasized that fasting is not merely going hungry and that the ritual prayer is not merely bowing and standing. He said: "How many are there who fast, whose share from fasting is only hunger and thirst. How many are there who pray, whose gain from the ritual prayer is only fatigue."[5] May Allah make us God-fearing through our fasting and protect us from all evil through our prayer.
Brothers and sisters!
Let us do ourselves some good in this Ramadan. Let us learn the meaning of the Quran. Let us participate in the Muqabele in the mosques. Let us study the exegeses of the verses together and thus let the Quran flow into our life verse by verse. May this Ramadan be the best of our lives.

Willkommen, gesegneter Ramadan!
(28.02.2025)
Liebe Geschwister!
